Zorba, the true story
based on “Zorba the Greek” by Nikos Kazantzakis
ZILLER BUILDING – NIKOS KOURKOULOS NEW STAGE
As if led by the ghost of Alexis Zorbas, nine people discover a fantastic place where anything is possible: different ideologies coexist in harmony, while dreams and desires become reality and the mystery of life is revealed.
The production is the diary of a voyage into adventure.
The Lithuanian director Cezaris Grauzinis, who is well-known in Greece for his superb production of Daphnis and Chloe and his Waiting for Godot (which was performed at the Athens Festival), once again takes Greek literary tradition as his subject, creating bridges between the past and present. In this production, Nikos Kazantzakis’s landmark novel becomes the inspiration for an original work of drama created together by the director and the actors during rehearsals.
The Greek National Theatre would like to thank Mr Patroklos Stavrou for permission to use extracts from "Zorba the Greek" by Nikos Kazantzakis.
