ZILLER BUILDING - STAGE "NIKOS KOURKOULOS"

Five characters narrate a strange and complex story that centres on "The Golden Dragon", an Asian restaurant located somewhere in central Europe. Against a background of exotic orders and swiftly changing images, we witness moments from the lives of 15 people who live and work almost on top of one another in a modern multi-ethnic community. At the centre of the story are a young Chinese man suffering from toothache, and his sister, imprisoned just a few metres away from him.

In the new play by the well-known and multi-award-winning German writer Roland Schimmelpfennig, which has received prizes at two major German festivals this year, five accomplished performers narrate, comment on and act multiple characters, creating, with humour and simplicity, a mosaic of intersecting lives whose common denominator is the silent cry of contemporary society, “I wish I was someone else.” The play, directed by the up-and-coming Katerina Evangelatou on her return to the Greek National Theatre, consists of 48 short scenes that talk about fate, time, love, loneliness and immigration.
