Uncle Vanya by Anton Chekhov
Ziller Building – Central Theatre
Chekhov’s classic masterpiece, a human and melancholic play about the so called wasted life and an in depth survey of human characters is presented at Ziller Building - Central Theatre from the 19th of December directed by the artistic director Yannis Houvardas in a contemporary performance with an with an ensemble of leading actors.

The fully renovated Main Stage of the National Theatre of Greece is set to re-open its doors following an eight-year absence with a work by Dimitris Papaioannou, the avant-garde stage director, choreographer and visual artist who drew international media attention and acclaim with his creative direction of the Opening Ceremony of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games.

The National Theatre presented the "Persians", one of the best ancient Greek plays, in the Ancient Theatre of Epidaurus on the 31st of July and 1st of August, adapted and directed by the internationally famous director Dimiter Gotscheff.

"Hamletmachine" by Heiner Muller
from the Deutsches Theater on the 5th of June
The National Theatre, alongside its established collaboration with the Deutches Theater from Berlin, will host the well known German theatre (Theatre of the Year for 2008) for one and only performance of Heiner Muller’s "Hamletmachine" directed by Dimiter Gotscheff, at Kotopouli Theatre with the support of the Greek Festival.

The National Theatre becomes a member of the Union of the Theatres of Europe
The National Theatre became a member of the Union of the Theatres of Europe with a unanimous decision of the General Assembly of the members – European theatres and theatre personalities – on Sunday, April 5, at Wroclaw, Poland.
