Despina Karagianni is an actress and theatre scholar. She was born on December 29, 1999, in Grevena and at the age of 14 was admitted to the Music School of Siatista, from which she graduated. She began her theatre training in 2014 at the Municipal and Regional Theatre of Kozani (DIPETHE Kozanis) and in 2022 completed her studies at the University of the Peloponnese, Department of Theatre Studies in Nafplio. A year later, she was admitted to the Master’s program of the same department, “Theatre and Society: Theory, Stage Practice, and Pedagogy”, while simultaneously completing her first year at the Drama School of the Piraeus Association.
She has collaborated as an actress with director E. Dimopoulou in the play A Tale Without a Name by Iakovos Kampanellis (2015, DIPETHE Kozanis), with director E. Efthymiou in And the Earth Changed Its Skin (2017, Greek National Opera – Alternative Stage), with director A. Poulimas in The Bacchae (2018, Ancient Messene Theatre, Akronafplia Theatre, Mycenae Theatre), with director P. Vamos in Passage by Reza Devet (2018, Embros Theatre), with director K. Delakouras in The Lonesome West by Martin McDonagh (2025, Vafeio Theatre – Lakis Karalis), and with directors M. Monopoli and M. Gaitanidis in I giganti della montagna by Pirandello (2025, Theatro al Verso – Tuscany). As a performer, she appeared in Statistics/15 (2025: Kypseli Municipal Market and Syntagma).
She created the performances The Exodus of Oedipus (2022, Fougaro Art Center), Project 23:23, a documentary performance dedicated to the life and work of EKAB rescuers (2024, Nous Theatre), and the performance Purple (2025, Evrychoros).
In cinema, she participated in the short film Between Us Breath directed by K. Kalogiros. On Greek television, she appeared in To Dikty in episode 6 Hidden in the Dark directed by M. Manousakis, in To Kokkino Potami: The Continuation by the same director, playing the role of Louise, in To Vrachioli tis Fotias directed by G. Gkikapeppas, and in O Orkos 2 directed by Ch. Georgiou.
Beyond music, her great passion is the sea, which is why she has recently been engaged in amateur mermaiding under the guidance of facilitator Charikleia Mari.
She has also attended workshops with: Th. Terzopoulos, M. Monopoli, M. Gaitanidis, Th. Ambazis, G. Karamichos, A. Miliarakis, E. Fezollari, A. Myriagos, K. Moraitis, A. Nikolaidis, V. Thomopoulos, G.
