Dimitris Karantzas was born in Athens in 1987. He studied at Empros Higher Drama School and at the Department of Communication and Media Studies at the University of Athens. He has collaborated with the National Theatre of Greece, Onassis Stegi, the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, the National Theatre of Northern Greece, the Greek National Opera, Amore – Theatre of the South, the Greek Art Theatre Karolos Koun, Odou Kykladon Theatre, among others, having directed works from both the international and Greek repertoire, including: Phaethon and The Circling of the Square by Dimitris Dimitriadis, Helen and Medea by Euripides, Twelfth Night by William Shakespeare, Heroes’ Square by Thomas Bernhard, The Waves by Virginia Woolf, Ashes to Ashes by Harold Pinter, The Clouds by Aristophanes, Phaedra by Marina Tsvetaeva, Long Day’s Journey into Night by Eugene O’Neill, The Persians by Aeschylus, Three Sisters, Uncle Vanya, and The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare, The House (his own text), The Good Person of Szechwan by Bertolt Brecht, The Glass Menagerie and A Streetcar Named Desire by Tennessee Williams, Little Eyolf, When We Dead Awaken, Ghosts, and Hedda Gabler by Henrik Ibsen, and Cleansed by Sarah Kane.
His productions have toured internationally, including appearances at the Festival d’Avignon (68th edition), the Gulbenkian Foundation in Lisbon, the National Theatre of Norway, Internationaal Theater Amsterdam, the Tbilisi International Theatre Festival, among others. He has participated in KunstenFestivaldesArts as a guest artist in the Residence and Reflections Project. He was nominated for the European Theatre Prize (16th edition) in the category “New Theatrical Realities” and participates in the European theatre platform “Prospero New European Wave.”
Since 2020, he has been the Artistic Director of Proskinio Theatre.
