Elsa Andrianou

Elsa Andrianou was born in Athens. She studied at the University of Athens (Departments of History- Archaeology and Theatre Studies).

Since 1998, she has teached Dramaturgy and Theatre History in Drama Schools (“Contemporary Theatre of Athens”, “Delos”, Greek Art Theatre Karolos Koun”, “Patras Municipal and Regional Theatre”), and in several workshops. She teaches Dramaturgy at the National Theatre of Greece Drama School and, since September 2016, she is also Director of Studies of the School.

She has worked as a theatre expert and a member of the the research team at the “DESMI Centre for the Ancient Greek Drama”, at the 3rd Radio Programme and ET1.

She has been a theatre critic since 1998 (“Acropolis” and “The Lexis”) and her texts and essays have been published in various editions, magazines (“Peritechno”, To Dentro”, “Kathimerini”, Porfyras”, “Diavazo”, Eleftherotypia”, etc) and theatre programmes.

She has been the writer, co-writer or editor in several editions (Ancient Greek Theatre, E.A.P., 2001, Epidaurus – The Ancient Theatre, The Performances, ed. Miletos, Patrice Pavis, Theatre Lexicon, ed. GUTENBERG, etc.).

She has participated and lectured in many conferences about theatre and she has been a member of Theatre Award Comitees (Karolos Koun Awards -2010, Music and Theatre Critics Union Awards -2010, Eleftheria Sapountzi Award -2005, 2007).

She has collaborated as a dramaturg with several theatre organizations (National Theatre, Onassis Cultural Centre, Megaron Music Hall of Athens, Patras Municipal and Regional Theatre, Kavala Municipal and Regional Theatre, ΟΠΕRA Theatre Group, etc.) and important directors (Thodoris Abazis, Stathis Livathinos, Stamatis Fassoulis, Vangelis Theodoropoulos, Aris Troupakis, etc)

She has adaptated for stage many texts, theatrical, but especially important texts of classic literature (Al. Papadiamantis, Merchants of Nations, V. Cornaros, Erotokritos, Homer, Iliade, M. Bulgakov, Diaboliade, A. Chekhov, Ward No. 6, O. Wilde, The Happy Prince, F.M. Dostoyevski, Daemons, etc).

She has also translated for stage plays from Ancient Greek and French (Euripides, Trojan women, Beaumarchais, The marriage of Figaro, Sophocles, Oedipus Rex –choral).
