Gerasimos Giovanakis

Born and raised in Kavala. Graduated with Honours from the Department of Theatre Studies of the University of Patras and the joint postgraduate program "Semiotics, Culture and Communication" of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. He completed the four-year study program of the Higher Drama School of Municipal & Regional Theatre of Patras. He completed educational exchange programs for students at the University of Lodz (Poland), the University of Groningen (The Netherlands) and the Tokyo University of the Arts (Japan), in the field of theatre practice and cultural history. He visited Japan as an official guest of the Japanese Government through the MIRAI program (Future Leaders in Arts and Culture), organized by the Japanese International Cooperation Centre, the Japanese Embassy in Greece and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. He collaborated with artists in theatre and art venues across Europe: as an actor for the Municipal & Regional Theatre of Patras (Greece), as a director for Vrijdag Theater (Groningen, The Netherlands), as a dramaturg for Delattre Dance Company (Frankfurt, Germany), while working as an independent researcher for the academic research group “Media Semiotics Research Group” (SemioLab, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). He curated and led improvisation and acting workshops for independent theatre groups (Patras, Thessaloniki) and organized creative activities for refugees through theatre games (Leek, The Netherlands). He is a co-founder of the “Theatrologist Cartel” group, which was awarded from the Center for Hellenic Studies in Greece at Harvard University.
