Markella Manoliadi was born in Athens, Greece, and graduated with distinction from the National School of Dance in Athens in 2002. She continued her studies in Europe, taking part in workshops with renowned choreographers such as Steve Paxton, Jeremy Nelson, Nancy Starks Smith, Trisha Brown, Julian Hamilton, David Zabrano, and others. Markella has worked as a performer with various companies, including the National Theatre, National Theatre of North Greece, National Opera of Greece, apotosoma dance co (Antonis Foniadakis), Oktana dance co (Konstantinos Rigas), Wrong Movement dance co (Konstantinos Michos), Persa Stamatopoulou, Maria Gorgia, Ioanna Parali, Aggeliki Stellatou, Smack dance co, Quasistellar dance co, and others. She currently teaches contemporary dance at the National School of Dance. In 2004, Markella was the assistant choreographer for the opening ceremony of the Paralympics Games in Athens. She has also choreographed her own performances in collaboration with visual artists. She serves as the assistant choreographer of Andonis Foniadakis and Konstantinos Rigos and was the assistant director of Andonis Foniadakis at National Opera Ballet during 2016-2017. Markella is also a choreographer for theatre plays and has been collaborating with director Giannis Chouvardas since 2021. She is currently experimenting with her own creative work and researching how the moving body can exist in non-theatre spaces. Markella is the director of the Metaneira Dance School. She has a long-standing partnership with FLUX Laboratory Athens, organizing and delivering dance programs and performances. Since 2017, they have been collaborating on Flux School Next, supporting graduated dancers to develop their projects under Markella Manoliadi's mentorship.
