One of the most iconic plays of the twentieth century comes to the National for the first time, brought to the stage in a perceptive and contemporary production directed by Nikaiti Kontouri. Inspired by a real event, Miller gives his play, whose structure was directly influenced by ancient Greek tragedy, the pace and tension of a detective story.
In the Brooklyn of the 1950s, immigrants arrive from all over the world in search of a better life, some of them illegally. They come from every walk of life in search of the American dream, determined to succeed. But it often proves to be the wrong path, leading those who follow it into hubris.
