ZILLER BUILDING - STAGE "NIKOS KOURKOULOS"

Between the gardens and the rocky shore of Zakynthos, in a house with a view of the Red Rock, the young Fotini Santri is visited by her cousin, the charismatic Angelos. Far from the sophistication of an urban lifestyle and unschooled in the complexity of social norms, the beautiful and innocent Fotini, the embodiment of the natural world of the island, becomes lost in the dark labyrinth of love. Her innocence and youthful naïveté become accessories in a fateful game. No way is left open to her apart from that which leads to the Red Rock.

Grigorios Xenopoulos, the great innovator of Greek literature, and the originator of urban realism, wrote the novel The Red Rock in 1905, creating one of his best loved heroines against the background of the island where he grew up. He then adapted it into a stage play entitled Fotini Santri, which was performed for the first time in 1908. Drawing on these two sources, as well as the writer's own autobiography, Roula Pateraki has brought the world of Xenopoulos to life, illuminating the complicated psychological journeys of his heroes. Her production features a host of well-known actors.
