ZILLER BUILDING - STAGE "NIKOS KOURKOULOS"

The abandoned baby found and raised by the merchant Giannoutsos 16 years earlier is now of an age to be married, and his adoptive father decides to make him a gift of the best bride he can find. However, the young Fortunatos is already in love with Petronella and is sure that he wants to marry her. True love encounters difficulties when the rich but elderly doctor Louras decides that he too wants to marry Petronella. Although the situation seems hopeless, an unexpected discovery will help the young hero, averting the ill match and bringing happiness to those who deserve it.

In Markos Antonios Foskolos’s hilarious comedy, the latest of only three extant works by the Cretan playwright, written in about 1655, Fortune sets her wheel in motion and cheerfully tugs on the strings of human destiny. Martha Frintzila explores the roots of Greek drama, and with a dynamic team sheds light on this almost unknown jewel from the Greek theatre’s past.
