In The Third Wedding, Greece is seen in the 1930s, during the German occupation and in the throes of civil war, through the lives of Nina and Ekavi. Their struggle for survival and for a better future is depicted with tenderness, humour but also harshness, reflecting the reality in the Greece of that time, with all its contradictions, difficulties, charm and beauty. A multicoloured mosaic of human life is revealed, while in the incisive, daring, authentic writing of Kostas Tachtsis, no one is spared.
A landmark of post-war literature in Greece and one of the countrys best loved novels, The Third Wedding remains just as topical today as when it was first written, with its bold depiction of many of the characteristics of modern Greek society. The director, Stamatis Fasoulis, has brought all his skill and experience to adapting the novel (with Thanasis Niarchos) and bringing it to theatrical life with a host of great actors.
