For the first time, excerpts from the epic 12th-century poem Eskandar Nameh, written by Nizami, are being dramatized in Greece. In this famous work of Persian literature, Alexander the Great becomes a Persian king who travels and conquers exotic places and is presented as a philosopher in dialogue with ancient scholars.
An illustrated page of a manuscript of Eskandar Nameh recalls the legends surrounding Alexander. Attributed to a workshop in the city of Shiraz, it dates from the 16th century and shows Alexander talking with wise men from the ancient world.
