A powerful but at the same time curious love triangle is at the centre of this exceptional piece of American realism. A tyrannical father, his third wife and his youngest son from his second marriage live together on his farm, with dramatic consequences for all of them.
O’Neill, a playwright who is well-acquainted with the intricacies of the human soul, highlights the emotional and familial paralysis that results from the pathology of the American dream and the vital need for ownership and sovereignty. Though rarely performed in Greece, the play is a superb example of American realism, with references to the Greek myths that inspired the great dramatist.
