Dad? Was I cruel? “Families do not speak literally”, remember?
An original, biting and yet hilarious play by the manifold author Alexandra K* is directed by Sarantos Georgios Zervoulakos a young and highly acclaimed director of greek origin and international background. The performance is a collaboration among young artists from Greece and german-speaking countries on a multi–language play about everyday life in 2018’s Greece.
The first privatization of public land is threatening the illegal beach house of Antonis Doe along with his whole personal mythology. But, most importantly, it threatens the future of his children, at least the way Antonis has planned it. Determined to fight to the very end to save “the investment of his life”, Antonis will have to confront not only the State but even his own children. Powerless and alone against the State and the foreign capital, he will declare the land -which he now owns after trespassing- an independent state. And he will become an acclaimed hero for one day. But the cause célèbre is now the day after; the future which once belonged to his children.
In the play by Alexandra K*, the old, “rotten” generation clashes with the “spoiled” new. The law of one man opposes the law of the State. And the typical Greek family faces the challenge of its own survival.
