Erie Kyrgia is a graduate of the Faculty of Theatre Studies at the University of Athens (A. Papadakis Scholarship). She studied with a scholarship on a two-year inter-disciplinary postgraduate course run by the University of Athens Faculty of Theatre Studies and the Ionian University Department of Music Studies, from which she graduated with a distinction.

 

She has worked in the theatre since 1997 (translating and adapting plays and curating theatrical seasons, and also as a dramaturg, assistant director and production manager, etc.). She has worked with the directors Yannis Houvardas, Stathis Livathinos, Michail Marmarinos, Dimitris Tarlow, Konstantin Bogomolov, Oskaras Korsunovas, Cezaris Graužinis, Dimitris Karantzas, Katerina Evaggelatou, Yannis Kalavrianos, Aliki Danezi-Knutsen, Grigoris Karantinakis, Sylvia Liouliou, and others; with the choreographers Konstantinos Rigos, Andonis Foniadakis, and Ioannis Mandafounis; with Poreia Theatre (since its foundation), the National Theatre of Greece, the Greek National Opera, Onassis Stegi, the Cyprus Theatre Organisation, the Greek Art Theatre, Piraeus Municipal Theatre, the Russian collective Chto Delat, the opera group The Medium Project, and others. She is multilingual and has translated works by writers including Ibsen, Jon Fosse, Strindberg, Chekhov, Beckett, Pinter, Thomas Bernhard, Simon Stephens, Roland Schimmelpfennig, David Hare and Albert Ostermaier from their original languages into Greek. She has written libretti for operas by George Dousis and Panagiotis Liaropoulos. She worked in the Department of Opening, Closing and Medal Ceremonies of the Athens 2004 Olympic Games Organising Committee. She was Head of the Office of the Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Greece (from 2007 to 2013 for Yannis Houvardas and in 2015 and 2016 for Stathis Livathinos). She was a member of the State Playwriting Award Committee in 2017 and 2018.
