Second Summer Workshop on Ancient Drama in collaboration with the European Cultural Centre of Delphi
In collaboration with the European Cultural Centre of Delphi, the National Theatre of Greece is organising the Second Summer Workshop on Ancient Drama at Delphi from 16th to 30th July 2017.
The aim of the workshop is the study and dissemination of ancient drama internationally, providing specialist knowledge to meet the highest professional requirements.
The workshop will be led by director Michail Marmarinos. Working with him will be the German set and costume designer Andrea Schmidt-Futterer and the Russian academic Dmitry Trubotchkin.
There will also be a workshop, run by the Artistic Director of the National Theatre of Greece, Stathis Livathinos.
The key topic will be: The Chorus: Matter and Meaning in everyday life and in ancient Greek drama.
(A theoretical and practical approach examining the concept of the chorus in terms of The Chorus and Space, The Chorus and Everyday Life, and The Chorus and Ancient Greek Drama/Euripides’ The Madness of Heracles)
The workshop is intended for professional actors with at least two years’ experience, as well as directors, set designers, costume designers, choreographers and theatre creatives who want to deepen their education by focussing on ancient drama.
Every day of the workshop includes an intensive morning and afternoon session, including physical and mental exercise, study, theory and practice.
At the end of the process there will be a presentation in the form of a work in progress.
Those taking part in the workshop will stay in the guesthouses of the European Cultural Centre of Delphi.
The workshop will be conducted in Greek and English. Knowledge of English is also essential for Greek participants.
Participation fee: 400 euro (including tuition, transportation from Athens to Delphi, accommodation, breakfast and lunch).
The workshop is run by the National Theatre of Greece and the European Cultural Centre of Delphi under the auspices and with the support of the Ministry of Culture and Sport.
