The National Theatre of Greece production Eau de Cologne, directed by Argyro Chioti and written by Efthimis Filippou, which was part of the 2019-2020 season at the Experimental Stage, is to be performed in France.

On 16 and 17 November it is at the Théâtre du Bois de l'Aune in Aix en Provence and on 21 November at the Châteauvallon-Liberté theatre in Toulon.

Five women offer their services to communicate with the dead. The only thing that the interested party has to do is to clearly dictate a letter while wearing a mask. The words will be transformed by an enormous hand-operated machine, first into a design and then into cologne - the scent of which will reach the other world. A man arrives with a letter for his mother...

Eau de Cologne is an example of Argyro Chiotis’ research into the choric and the relationship between the body and music, the theatre and the other arts. Traditional and modern mythologies are in dialogue on stage and deal with the function of memory and the power of speech.

 “Anyway, my hand has now become so big, my dear, that one day I managed to grasp the whole planet with that hand, and it was a very strange feeling when I held the globe in my palm, because where there were oceans and seas it was cold, and where there were mountains it tore the skin of my palm, and where there were forests it was soft, and then I took a knife, a big knife, from the drawer, and cut it in half and my whole arm was full of earth and hot lava and mud and seawater and the blood of crushed people and animals.”
