The 3rd Cycle of the National Theatre’s Artistic Residency Program begins - Announcement of Participating Artists

10.7.2025

The 3rd cycle of the Artistic Residency Program, launched by the National Theatre for emerging European theatre creators – writers, directors, and dramaturgs – is beginning. An initiative by the country’s First Stage aimed at promoting cultural exchange, mobility, and the support of a new generation of theatre makers.

Three emerging artists from across Europe will be hosted by the National Theatre in Athens, while three Greek artists will travel to major theatre institutions and cities across Europe. The duration of each residency is up to 75 days, during which the artists will have the opportunity to become closely acquainted with the operations of significant theatres, collaborate with their staff, engage with the artistic movements and cultural life of the host city, and enrich their research and artistic practice.

The artists traveling abroad are: director Marissa Farmaki, selected by Teatru Malta; dramaturg Theodóra Patití, selected by Teatro di Roma – Teatro Nazionale; and director Emmanouíl Konstantinídis, selected by MNT – Skopje.

In turn, the National Theatre will welcome three talented European creators in early September: German director Mirjam Loibl, Italian playwright Nicolò Sordo, and Dutch playwright Oumaima Belkhdar.

The Artistic Residency Programs are part of the project "National Theatre Outreach Actions" with OPS code TA 5167037, implemented within the framework of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan “Greece 2.0,” with funding from the European Union – NextGenerationEU.
