Orpheus Descending by Tennessee Williams from October, 17 At “Nikos Kourkoulos” New Stage

02.10.2012

The National Theatre of Greece invites Barbara Weber, joint artistic director of Theater Neumarkt in Zurich and one of the most promising young directors in European theatre, to direct one of Tennessee Williams’ most fascinating and poetic plays.

In a small town in the American South, nothing ever seems to change; until a charming, wandering young musician arrives and meets Lady, a passionate woman marked by a tragic past and trapped in a loveless marriage. Loneliness and desire, sexuality and oppression will bring out the violence that lurks underneath this suffocating society in a play that reinvents the ancient Greek myth of Orpheus.
